Are you passionate about putting social enterprise at the heart of the Scottish economy? Then join our Board!
This is a unique opportunity to join our Board to help advance and champion the social enterprise sector. As the representative body for social enterprises in Scotland, we are growing a collaborative movement so that all social enterprises have a stronger collective voice. We are an independent, membership and sector led organisation, which has united and represented social enterprises for more than 15 years.
Social Enterprise Scotland recognises the importance of a democratic and representative governance whilst still ensuring the structure empowers the organisation to be agile, efficient, and effective. Our Board currently consists of 7 Member Directors and 1 Co-opted Director who were elected at our AGM for an initial 3-year period of office. Our Board is diverse, with representatives from urban and rural social enterprises, large and small organisations. We have recently recruited a new Chair to lead the Board and consequently, the Board are undertaking a governance review in line with the recommendations of the Transition Group to establish what has worked well and what future changes might need to be considered.
We are looking for motivated and dedicated individuals to join our Board.
Our mission is to promote and strengthen social enterprise in Scotland and be the go-to place for organisations to collaborate, partner and invest with social enterprises.
We do this through:
- Representation, communications, and engagement: We work to support our members to be connected and heard.
- Policy development and research: We work with members and partners to influence and shape the policy environment and provide a robust evidence base on the impact of social enterprise.
- Developing markets and working with partners: We work with partners to unlock markets to develop opportunities, skillsets, and capacity for social enterprises to flourish.
We are interested in people from all sectors, backgrounds and experiences to bring fresh thinking, diversity, and expertise to Social Enterprise Scotland. We look to gather intelligence from across our sector to drive the agenda and provide leadership to effectively implement it. It is therefore vital that the Social Enterprise Scotland Board has a variety of skills, broad representation across our diverse sector and the voices of different sections of society.
As a Board member we expect you to be aligned to the aims and objectives of the organisation and expect Trustees to contribute actively to the Board from the strategic direction, defining goals, and setting targets, to evaluating performance, ensuring the effective and efficient administration, and financial stability or the organisation.
Appointments are generally for an initial period of 3 years. Board Members are voluntary and unpaid.
This is an incredibly exciting time for our sector as we deliver the Social Enterprise Action Plan 2021-24 set out by the Scottish Government. This inclusive model will put social enterprises at the heart of Scotland’s future. Be part of the journey and enable the growth of a fairer economy and a more sustainable future for everyone.
