Social Enterprise Spotlight – Scotlearn

Posted: 10 January 2017, in Press Release

Our newest Social Enterprise Spotlight is Michael Cullen and Scotlearn – a social enterprise working to improve literacy, financial competence, digital skills, confidence, aspiration and employability by providing tailored training and education. Get in touch with Sally at michael@scotlearn.scot and check out scotlearn.scot. Connect with them on Twitter and Facebook too.

Every few weeks we focus on a randomly selected social enterprise member for intense marketing support and promotion. Scotlearn will feature in all e-bulletins, on our website homepage and on all our social media, alongside other support, reaching thousands of people across Scotland and beyond. Want to star in the Spotlight? Email chris.mack@socialenterprise.scot.

What’s your social and/or environmental mission? Our primary goal is to improve people’s skills, such as improving literacy, financial competence, digital skills, confidence, aspiration and employability, by providing tailored training and education.

How do you do it? We achieve this is in a variety of ways. We have a learning HUB located on Dumbarton Road in Yoker. Our office also has a small learning and development room and plenty of space to deliver both group and individual learning. We link in with other groups and provide group learning and if clients wish to expand on their learning, our custom online platform enables them to develop in their own time and at their own pace.

What’s your personal motivation for being a social entrepreneur? My personal motivation is to help people. In my past experience, I found one of the core barriers for people was education and skills development. People have tremendous ability but just need the help, support and understanding to enable them to flourish.

What are your current projects? We are a new social enterprise and are currently developing partnerships to help us establish our core projects within the community.

What exciting things do you have coming up? We have been operating since June 2015 but we are having our official launch on Saturday the 21st of January, to showcase what we have done and what we are aiming to do.

Who do you want to work with more? People who are social isolated. These are the people on the fringes of society and are often not receiving the services or support they need.

What’s your biggest challenge? The biggest challenge for any new enterprise is funding and the generation of revenues to help cover core costs. We have been lucky to have the support of Yoker Resource Centre, who have helped us to establish our learning HUB.
