Social Enterprises Target Public Sector

The scheme ‘Ready for Business’ encourages public sector bodies to include community benefit clauses in their tenders, reports Third Sector.

Third Sector wrote: "It will encourage public sector bodies to include community benefit clauses in their tenders, which allow not-for-profit organisations to demonstrate the social impact that will follow if they win the contract."

Colin Campbell, development manager at Senscot, told Third Sector that the clauses had already been included in a number of contracts for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Ready for Business will also create a register of Scottish social enterprises that have bid for public contracts, in order to form consortia for larger bids.

The scheme has been developed by CEiS, Senscot and Social Firms Scotland, with funding from the Scottish Government.
