A day of learning and reflection at The Wee Retreat
Posted: 08 December 2025, in Blog-News
On November 19th, I visited The Wee Retreat in Glasgow’s Southside, alongside others in the sector, to learn about their work. The day was a chance to spend time together, learn more about the space, and reflect on what wellbeing looks like for each of us. The Wee Retreat is a community mindfulness space, offering a welcoming environment to rest, learn, and focus on wellbeing. It was the perfect setting for our Community Learning Exchange.
We started with a chat, over tea and coffee, which helped everyone ease into the day and catch up with some familiar faces. After warm introductions, we then took part in a guided meditation. This moment of calm reflected what The Wee Retreat CIC is all about—slowing down, breathing, and making space for yourself.
After lunch, Vicky shared her story behind founding The Wee Retreat CIC, beginning with her search for a mindfulness course, when her life felt overwhelming. From that small step, this idea then grew into creating a place where people could look after themselves, reconnect, and feel supported. Since opening in 2018, it has become a sanctuary for many, offering a friendly smile and often a cuppa. I strongly felt the sense of community, from the practitioners running classes to the conversations that happen during Wee Cuppas. It was clear how much the space means to the people who use it.
Vicky spoke honestly about their challenges, from maintaining funding and income streams to staying accessible. This helped us appreciate the amount of care that goes into making The Wee Retreat CIC what it is.
Throughout the visit, a few shared themes came up naturally. We talked about how important it is to look after your own wellbeing—not just for yourself, but because it helps you show up better in work and relationships.
The Wee Retreat CIC highlights how places like this can bring people together, offering support, connection and a sense of belonging. The meditation session gave everyone a chance to experience the benefits of taking even a few minutes to pause, and many of us reflected on how these small practices could fit into everyday life.
Big THANK YOU to the team at the Wee Retreat CIC and the Scottish Community Alliance, who funded this exchange.
