SOCIAL ENTERPRISE NEWS
In order to look forward, it is often good to look back. So let’s take a trip down memory lane to reflect on the winners of the Social Enterprise Awards (SES) Scotland 2022 while applications for the 2023 Awards are live.
Please met Lingo Flamingo who won the Health and Social Care Social Enterprise Award 2022. We spoke to Robbie Norval, Director, about why they applied, the benefits and their progress since winning the Social Enterprise Health and Social Care Social Enterprise Award 2022.
Why did you apply for the Social Enterprise Awards Scotland 2022?
We entered the Social Enterprise Awards Scotland as it is a brilliant platform to spread awareness not just about Lingo Flamingo but also about the fantastic work across the social enterprise sector. It’s also a great way to get recognition for our services and the social impact which we are generating.
How did the Social Enterprise Scotland Awards 2022 benefit you?
The Awards benefited us in many ways. Firstly, it created a great sense of achievement not just within our team but also with our stakeholders, beneficiaries and customers. We also had more people getting in touch with us who had heard about us from the awards so we saw an increase in custom as well as awareness. Winning the award gave us a wee bit more je ne sais quoi!
What progress have you made since winning the category you won?
Since winning the Award we have developed our organisation further, have increased the number of both care home classes and classes within our language nest. We have also recently obtained support from a net zero coordinator through Glasgow City Council. So alongside our impact linked to cognitive health and well-being, we are looking to benchmark and improve our environmental impact.
What would you say to someone thinking of entering this year?
As a social entrepreneur, I feel guilty quoting Nike but “Just do it“ is my advice! We had entered a few times previously and it was not until last year that we won the Award but regardless if you win or don’t, each year has been a positive experience in making new contacts within the sector and spreading awareness about what we do.
What is next for your organisation – what can we look forward to or expect?
Lingo Flamingo intends to keep flapping its wings and focus on creating a positive impact on society and to provide meaningful activities to older adults and people living with dementia in Scotland. We have just completed our three year strategic plan which focuses on sustainable growth both financially as well as growth linked to the quality and quantity of our classes.
Would you like to add anything else?
Winning the Health and Social Care Award has had a very positive impact upon Lingo Flamingo. It’s easy and free to enter and the staff are very friendly and engaging. So like Edith Piaf we have no regrets!
