Posted: 06 June 2023, in Awards
One Social Enterprise Awards Scotland 2023 Category is the Social Enterprise Champion Award which in 2022 recognised an individual volunteering in a social enterprise who went above and beyond to make a difference.
Please met Adam Leishman who was nominated by the team in 2022 as part of the Social Enterprise Awards Scotland from the FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland (FSGWS) and won the Social Enterprise Awards Scotland 2022 Volunteer Champion Award.
Name: Adam Leishman
Job Title: Volunteer Warehouse Operative
Organisation: FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland
Nomination information about Adam Leishman:
Adam was nominated for the Social Enterprise Champion Award by the other FSGWS volunteers, who say that he always works hard and tries his best, is always willing to help others in the team, and has changed his life and attitude while volunteering. Adam is always looking for new ways to make things better around the FSGWS warehouse: he volunteered additional time to transform an industrial corner of the car park into a green lunch break oasis, complete with decking, planters, and shrubbery. Adam’s generosity also extends to outside of working hours: he’s currently in recovery and uses his own experience to support other volunteers by accompanying them to recovery meetings.
Being nominated for the Social Enterprise Champion Award has been an incredible boost for Adam, especially because it followed a vote by his FSGWS volunteers peers. To have his hard work and kindness recognised publicly has been a boost to his confidence, especially because he experienced a brief personal relapse just three months before he was nominated. After overcoming this huge personal challenge, to have the respect of his peers, and the acknowledgement of a national award, has meant a lot to build Adam’s self-esteem.
Adam said: “Winning the Award was a great honour: to be recognised by the FareShare staff and other volunteers makes me very proud, and has given me the confidence to continue on the path I’m following and will help me overcome hurdles in the future.” He adds that he would like to thank everyone that was involved in the voting.
