Social Enterprise Scotland comment on Scottish Government budget

Social Enterprise Scotland, the national body that represents the broad range of social enterprises across Scotland, has commented on the new Scottish Government budget proposals.
The organisation welcomed continued government support for social enterprise development. However, they emphasised that during the cost of living crisis, we need to ensure that the right support is in place for all social enterprises.
Chris Martin, Chief Executive of Social Enterprise Scotland, said: “We welcome the Scottish Government commitment to continue supporting the third sector and social enterprise, as part of the bigger picture of a wellbeing economy that serves both people and planet.
“We also welcome the progressive approach that’s being established to tackle inequality and particularly the increased funding to tackle child poverty. We look forward to a continued dialogue with the Finance Secretary to share how social enterprises are contributing to this agenda.
“However, we also need to recognise the crippling costs of doing business for social enterprises and to look at how government, in partnership with the social enterprise community, can drive forward improved financial and business support.”
