BAM UK&I pledge support for Scottish social enterprises

Posted: 10 June 2026, in News-Press Release

BAM UK&I is the latest organisation to sign the Buy Social Pledge, an initiative from Social Enterprise Scotland that empowers businesses to use their purchasing power for social good across Scotland’s communities.

The Buy Social Pledge brings together corporate businesses, SMEs, academic institutions, and public sector bodies looking to make a commitment to bring social enterprises into their supply chains. It allows businesses and institutions to harness their purchasing power for good and contribute to positive social change in local communities.

Organisations who sign up to the Buy Social Pledge commit to fostering inclusive economic growth. The pledge signifies a transformative approach to doing business, where businesses become catalysts for positive change in communities.

Earlier this year, SSEN Transmission awarded BAM and Siemens Energy a major contract for delivery of the Greens substation project.

SSEN Transmission’s continued investment in Scotland’s electricity transmission network highlights a long-term opportunity to support wider economic benefit across the country. As major energy infrastructure programmes create demand across supply chains, services and local support, Social Enterprise Scotland hopes to inspire more organisations in the sector to consider how their purchasing decisions can open up commercial opportunities for social enterprises and help strengthen communities across Scotland.

Douglas Stewart, Commercial Director at BAM said “BAM UK&I has signed Social Enterprise Scotland’s Buy Social Pledge, marking the start of work to identify more inclusive commercial opportunities for social enterprises and local suppliers within Scotland’s growing energy infrastructure sector.”

Alongside joining the pledge, BAM UK&I has also become a Sponsor Member of Social Enterprise Scotland, further demonstrating its commitment to delivering meaning social value through its operations, partnership and projects.

Jamie Lawson, Strategic Partnerships and Engagement Manager at Social Enterprise Scotland said “We are delighted to welcome BAM UK&I as both a signatory of the Buy Social Pledge and as a Sponsor Member of Social Enterprise Scotland.

“Their commitment demonstrates a genuine dedication to delivering social value through both their supply chain and wider business practices.

“By championing and investing in the social enterprise sector, BAM UK&I is helping to drive positive impact and build community wealth across Scotland and is setting a strong example for the energy infrastructure sector.”
